How it works

BusinessMaxx is a local-business directory. Customers search by suburb and category, see who is listed, and contact businesses directly. There is no middleman and no booking fee through us.
For customers
Searching and contacting businesses is free. You pick a suburb and a trade or category, then see approved businesses that work in that area. Each listing shows its ranking score and the business’s own contact details so you can call, email or visit them yourself.
For businesses
Each business has one category and one home suburb. You choose a work radius of 5 km, 10 km or 25 km from that home suburb. Wallet credits are spent onto a single ranking score: 1 credit becomes 1 score point. That score is what customers see, and it is what puts you on public lists.
A public suburb and category list includes your listing when all of these are true: your listing is approved, your score is above zero, and your home suburb is within your chosen radius of the suburb being searched. Listings are ranked by score, highest first. If two scores are equal, the business that first activated its score earlier is listed above the later one.
Pending, rejected and suspended listings are not shown. If you edit your profile, the listing goes back for approval before it is public again. Changing only your work radius does not require re-approval and does not reset your score.
New owners who finish onboarding receive 20 welcome credits once per account. Spending those credits on a public ranking still requires an approved listing.
Daily decay
Scores fall once a day at midnight, Australia/Brisbane time. Decay applies to the ranking score only — it does not take credits back out of your wallet. The new score is:
max(0, floor(score × (1 − 0.05 × burn)) − burn)
Burn is 1 at 5 km, 2 at 10 km, and 4 at 25 km. A wider radius costs more each night because you appear on more suburb lists. When the score reaches zero, the listing leaves public lists. Spending again reactivates it as a new activation, so the earlier-activation tie-break starts over.
Example: a listing that starts a Brisbane night on 100 will show these scores the next day if nothing else is spent:
- 5 km radius → 94
- 10 km radius → 88
- 25 km radius → 76
Transparency and approval
Ranking scores and contact details are public on purpose. Customers can see why a business sits where it does, and can reach you without going through us.

Card payments are coming soon. During the invited pilot, credits are added by BusinessMaxx rather than charged to a card.
